39th Annual Northeast Ship Model Show & Conference

Last week, we had the pleasure of attending and exhibiting at the 39th Annual Northeast Ship Model Show & Conference in New London, CT. There were over 100 models on display and we got to meet with several of the SeaWatch authors!

The guest speaker was CWO Melissa Polson, Sail Master of the USCGC Eagle, which is based in in New London. The Eagle is a 295-foot barque and serves as the flagship of the Coast Guard Academy as a training vessel for the both the Academy and candidates from the Office Candidate School. She is the only active-duty sailing vessel in America's military, and one of only two commissioned sailing vessels, along with the USS Constitution.

And, as luck would have it, CWO Polson was the raffle winner for SeaWatch Books' drawing of the two-volume Speedwell set! Congratulations!

And here is one of the authors of the Speedwell series, Greg Herbert, with his build of Speedwell (the photos of which are in the books):

Rob Napier, author of Legacy of a Ship Model: Examining the HMS Princess Royal was in attendance as well (look for news from SeaWatch soon on a new project from Rob):

We also ran into Olha Batchvarov showing her current build the Ragusian Carack. If you haven't seen Olha's YouTube channel, it's amazing. She produces beautiful videos of her outstanding work and makes this hobby looks so easy (as we all know it isn't). In fact, she made a video of the event itself:

It was a great day all around. Until next year!

Magnificent! Makes me the more eager to finish my self design of a 1650 VOC ship model at 1:80 scale.
